Healthy & cheap diet

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive. You can eat very healthy for less money than fast food. Here’s an example of a healthy menu that I use frequently.

Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
1 banana
1 coffee (black)
$0.50, 300 calories

Lunch
2 boiled eggs (remove yolk for 0 cholesterol)
1 kiwi
1 plum
$1.25, 200 calories

Afternoon snack
1 orange, medium
2 large carrots
1 green tea (with lemon)
$1, 100 calories

Dinner (stir fry ingredients together)
2 cups brown rice, cooked
2 cups frozen veggies
1 clove garlic
2 Tbs sesame oil
$1.50, 500 calories

Dessert
2 cups watermelon
$0.50, 50 calories

Added sugar: 0
Added salt: 0
Cholesterol: 0
Calories: 1,200 calories
Cost: $4.75

A few extra tips:

  • always pack a lunch for work
  • go grocery shopping weekly (for fresh fruit and vegetables)
  • buy fruits that are in season (they are usually much cheaper)
  • keep your kitchen clean
